Nyala, March 12(Darfur24) Yesterday, Friday, 5 people were killed and 25 more injured, as a person detonated a hand grenade at a social event (Circumcision of Children) in the locality of Umm Dafouk, on the border between Sudan and Central Africa.

 

The Director of South Darfur Police, Major General Mohamed Ahmed El-Zein, said in a press statement that unidentified  person threw a hand grenade among citizens who were on a social occasion in one of the neighborhoods of Um Dafouk, 140 km south of the capital of South Darfur, killing three people on the spot and wounding 27 others.

 

He stated that two of the wounded died later after arriving in the city of Nyala, while surgeries are being carried out for some of the wounded at the Nyala Teaching Hospital and the Sudanese Turkish Hospital

He stressed that the state authorities  mobilized the medical staff in all governmental and private hospitals in the city to take care of the injured.

Al-Zein appealed to citizens not to use firearms in social occasions, which is causing loss of life and property and turning it from joys to sorrows.

Incidents of gunfire were repeated in the cities of Darfur, a year ago, the city of Nyala witnessed the killing of four people at a social event in the Jabal neighborhood, and a child was killed by a bullet fired on a wedding occasion.

The security authorities in South Darfur issued a decision earlier, banning shooting at social events.
