A senior official at the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that his government is seeking to take action against the United Arab Emirates UAE .

The official told Darfur 24 that relations between Sudan and UAE were no longer good after the outbreak of the war on April 15 of this year.

Last week, a member of the Sudan’s Sovereignty Council , Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta launched a scathing attack against the UAE, accusing it of supporting the Rapid Support Forces RSF.

Addressing members of the security apparatus in the Sudanese coastal city of PortSudan last week, All Atta described the UAE as “mafia”.
He is the first Sudanese official to make public accusation against the Gulf state, which is accused by several sides of siding with the Rapid Support Forces in its war with the Sudanese army.

 

Al-Atta’s statements were followed by demonstrations in the city of Port Sudan after Friday prayers, demanding the expulsion of the Emirati ambassador to Sudan.

Darfur 24 has learned that the Sudanese government did not congratulate the UAE on its National Day, which was celebrated on Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry official, who preferred his identity to be kept anonymous, said that calm was an option, but it did not work, he said, adding that the other option was now the closest, with negative consequences expected.
