Nyala, August 30(Darfur24) The markets of the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, recorded hike in the prices of consumer goods, foodstuffs and building materials during the last week.

Some traders in the city market attributed  the rise to the closure of the Nyala El-Fasher road, by protesting  displaced people at  the Zamzam  IDP , blocking  hundreds of commercial trucks.

A trader  in the Nyala market, Ahmed Mohamed Rahma, told Darfur 24 that prices have increased by 80%, especially sugar, flour, tea, cement, soft drinks and juices.

Residents of Zamzam camp for displaced people in El Fasher, North Darfur, entered an open sit-in ten days ago, as a result of which they closed the road linking El Fasher and Nyala, in protest against what they called security breaches that claimed the lives of some displaced people .

According to Rahma, the price of a 50-kilo sack of sugar in the Nyala market ranged from 35 to 42 thousand pounds, flour weighing 25 kilos, from 13,000 pounds to 20 thousand pounds, a sack of cement increased  from 8 thousand to 15,000 pounds, and lentils weighing 20 kilos from 20 thousand pounds to 25 thousand pounds.
